Certification
How to become certified?
The CSC is the global system operator owning the global certification system.
The Regional System Operators (RSO) are developing a structure to support clients in every region. If there is no RSO in your region, the CSC is the system operator.
The CSC signs a license agreement with Certification Bodies (CB). CB’s issue the certificates. Clients select the CB themselves. Our goal is to have several CBs in every region, to ensure competition.

Following the step
Companies that want to explore the content of CSC can use the free Quick Scan in the Toolbox. Registration for the Quick Scan is not necessary. You create an account in the Toolbox with the quick link to CSC Toolbox.
NOTE: when performing the Quick Scan, choose the correct system (cement, aggregates or concrete).
CREATE AN ACCOUNT
You create an account in the Toolbox of the system at quick link to CSC Toolbox. The CSC Toolbox provides a free quick test (duration approx. 20 minutes) of all CSC criteria. It provides information on whether and how a company or plant is likely to be certified.
PROJECT REGISTRATION
You require a license (a number of certification rights) for the Toolbox and submit a certification application. This is called «project registration». It is not only an administrative step, but also important insofar as the scope of certification is set here.
PREPARE YOUR CERTIFICATION
You prepare your certification. To this end, you or a person commissioned by you upload evidence into the Toolbox and supplement any explanations. After completing the system and uploading your evidence, your score will be calculated.
PERFORM AN ASSESSMENT
To perform an assessment you select a certification institute. This can be done before or after the project registration. The certification institute appoints an auditor for the project. The customer must agree with the certification institute on the costs of the audit.
AUDIT REPORT
You can constantly improve the quality of your evidence. When this process is completed, the audit report is generated and the project file is frozen. An independent CSC auditor reviews the report.
REVIEWS THE WORK
Finally, the certification institute reviews the work of the auditor and determines whether additional inspection is required. The minimum number of occurrences equals 0.7 times the square root of the number of works included in the scope.
CERTIFICATE ISSUED
If the certification institute is satisfied with the content and quality of the report, the certificate is issued.
RECERTIFICATION
A new certification (recertification) will be necessary after three years.
The benefits
CSC has now been recognised as a responsible sourcing certification system for concrete, cement and aggregates by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), By DNGB and by Envision, a US infrastructure certification.
The value of the CSC results in particular from the planned or partly already recognised recognition by international systems for assessing the sustainability of buildings. These are systems like BREEAM, LEED and DGNB.
Environmental protection
Reduce climate impact, preserve biodiversity and strenghten climate resilience of the buildings and construction sector.
Positive business impact
CSC is recognized in leading green building labels: BREEAM, DGNB, LEED, OGNI
CSC is the benchmark tool within the global concrete industry.
Community engagement
Promote concrete as a construction material of choice within our society. Knowledge sharing, outreach and awareness rising
Improve productivity
Identify opportunites for action as you gain insight into the sustainability performance of your supply chain
Credibility
CSC is independent and the certification process review is performed by independent certification bodies.

The toolbox is a fantastic tool to help you go through all the process of a certification process.
Use the Quickscan for a quick impression, the AmbitionTool to determine your ambition, the Pre-assessment Tool to prepare you for a qualification and a certificate that you can get with the Assessment Tool.
What we do
The CSC Certification System for Concrete is being issued and maintained by the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) and applicable globally. In regions with a substantial interest in sustainable concrete certifications, the CSC is implementing and adapting the CSC system in partnership with Regional System Operators.
The CSC system is a product certification system, which typically applies to all products manufactured and supplied by the plant. Ready-mix concrete plants and precast concrete plants can obtain a ‘CSC certificate’.
Cement and aggregate suppliers can obtain a ‘CSC supplier certificate’. The CSC supplier certificates are being recognized in the CSC concrete certification in the category ‘Chain of custody’.
No CSC certificate can be issued if the prerequisites have not been satisfied.
